Department of Philosophy 




Dean Komel (1960) received his PhD in 1995, after studied phenomenology and hermeneutics at the University of Bochum under Bernhard Waldenfels and Klaus Held. He teaches Phenomenology, Hermeneutics, Cultural Philosophy and Philosophy of Humanities at the Department of Philosophy (FA UL).

He is Co-Founder (1990) and President (1996) of the Phenomenological Society of Ljubljana and a member of several philosophical societies, project groups, editorial and scientific boards of journals for philosophy and culture (Nova Revija, Ampak, Phainomena,  Orbis Phaenomenologicus, Topos, Aut, Teoria, Analecta Hermeneutica, Libri nigri – Libri virides, Prolegomena, Magazzino di filosofia, Divinatio, Bulletin heideggérien,  Creativity Studies, ForHum). Founding member of the International Institute for Hermeneutics (2001).  Co-Founder of the Central and Eastern European Conference in Phenomenology (2002) and of the Organization of Phenomenological Organizations (2002). 

Since 2005 he has also headed research activities at the  Institute for the Humanities Nova revija. Co-Founder of the International Forum for the Humanities (2014).

He received the Zois-Prize of Republic Slovenia for Outstanding Scientific Achievements in 2003.
